In a recent essay I talked about my friend Tino and his pathway to success, but each of us have our own specific vision for success.

There are many factors that contribute to our definition of success…

Firstly, following his passion building something for himself that is central to who he is.

When we follow our heart, the work becomes the easy part as we’re consumed with something that we are fully committed to and love wholeheartedly.

Not too difficult to find your measure of success when you’re 100% committed to something you love.

Another aspect is having a vision of what you want your life to be and look like, not just today but a year or two from now is important.

Then challenging bit is not getting too caught up in how you get there.

All too often I see people so consumed with following a specific path that they sometime lose sight of the goal.

My advice is to focus on the goal and do everything in your power to meet the goal or your objective.

Worry less the journey as it often takes care of itself if you’re focused and passionate about where you want to be and what you have in mind in terms of a vision for your success.

Over time your vision and measures may flex and change, and that’s okay.  The important thing to keep in mind is to not continually changing your vision or goal so that it becomes lost or watered down.

Stick with your plan until it’s achieved, all the while imagining your next part of the vision.

Personally, I’ve always dreamed big!

And so, we should – right?

Our lives are not a dress rehearsal for something else.  And depending on who you listen to we only have one shot at living our best life.

With that as your backdrop why shouldn’t we be dreaming big?

Can you take a moment to write down words that associate with the life that you’ve always dreamed of?

I’m guessing that some of these following words or concepts might be sprinkled amongst yours:

  • Independence
  • passion
  • love
  • wealth – financial or otherwise
  • travel

How many of these words describe your current life and vision?

And more importantly are you stuck in routine that doesn’t allow you to get from underneath it and move towards your vision of living your best life.

I know it’s easier said than done, particularly as we all have our hurdles, roadblocks and challenges to deal with and sometimes discovering your vision for success is out of reach.

So, what to do?

Finding time and space for deep self-reflection is a great place to begin.

The important aspect of this self-reflection time is to have no distractions or places you need to be.

Just you and your mind…

There are lots of exercises you can find on the internet about goal setting, self-reflection and visualisation, but for me I began with “what do I want to feel, do and be when I grow up”?

I guess I’d always flirted with creating something just for me, that I could take pride in and helping others.

No matter which way I looked at it my vision always came back to using my creativity in some way either through words or imagery.

Hence where I am today with Indelible Adventures Media.

Not only writing and publishing a weekly essay, but also growing my professional photography business while at the same time adapting one of my stories into a screenplay.

My vision is to complete the screenplay and shop it around to the movie studios.

Unless we dream big, we’ll never get beyond where we are.

Another aspect of my vision is having an exhibition of my photography, and although it’s not the first priority, it’s been lingering around the fringes for some time now.

Judy has been incredibly persistent in me getting my photograph out there into a broader audience to potentially sell my work.

Each of these items fit nicely into my current vision board which I always have on hand to remind me of my goals and objectives.

Given all this you’d expect that I would always be consumed and focus only on work…

Far from it!

I learned some time ago that one of the keys to a contented life is to find balance.

This translates into a daily practice of exercise and mediation.

Now some might say that is just another form of work.

However, in addition to these daily practices I spend quite a bit of time medi-napping by the pool taking an afternoon swim and generally recharging my batteries.

The feeling of sunshine on my skin feels rejuvenating in so many ways.

But let’s get back to you…

As you create your vision and find balance in your life the most important part is to now go ahead and live it.

Become the one with your vision and in doing so create the life that you’ve always wanted.

Only you can make this happen.

No one pushing you or preaching to you about how good it is… only you have the courage, determination and energy to bring your vision to life.

Remember, this is your life and only you are accountable for it.

Until next week

Ciao!
